Chalke Talk 63: What is prayer?

Steve suggests, “To really pray is to allow the contents of your prayer to possess you; to allow it to become YOUR vision, your passion, your longing, your commitment.”

This comes from the realisation that prayer is something many Christians do a lot of but don’t necessarily talk a lot about. Steve argues that intrinsic to prayer is understanding the kingdom of God; by praying, we’re asking God's “will be done” his “kingdom come.” Jesus asked his followers to regularly pray for the Kingdom of God to become a reality here on earth. And Steve describes the kingdom of God, that we should be praying for, is “that every person, every community, indeed the whole of creation, should flourish and thrive, enjoying peace and freedom from oppression.”

But what do you think that this great prayer of Jesus – the only one he ever asked us to regularly pray – is all about?
