Chalke Talk 94: Is there justice for the downtrodden?

Call it God. Cosmic Justice. Karma. Or, what goes around comes around. Since the beginning of time, people have believed that this world is heading somewhere. And the Ancient Jews, Steve comments, were no different.

The “common” worldview hasn’t been consistent though, Steve explains: “But, transformed by his encounter on the Damascus road, the apostle Paul came to understand that, through Jesus, what belonged to ‘the age to come’ was already breaking into the here and now – to bring hope, not only for the Jewish nation, but for ALL people, all nations, all languages, all tribes,
all colors and all classes; for everyone.”

For Paul, therefore it’s not about seeking justice for when we all move on from Earth, instead “it’s about what God is doing to renew the earth and the whole cosmos.”

And this is the key: “For Paul, the Day of the Lord will finally see the dimensions of earth and heaven completely integrated.
It’s the day when all of the downtrodden and oppressed will finally experience the gracious inclusion of God’s loving and wise judgment.”

So, what do you think? What does this mean for us - as individuals and communities - in terms of our lives, our purpose and our priorities?
