Chalke Talk 20: Jesus got angry – but only with the religious

In this week’s Chalke Talk Steve responds to criticism that in his previous video, he oversimplified the message of Jesus. While Steve had claimed that the message of the Gospel is simply one of love, others have pointed out that Jesus was – on occasions – a man of anger.

However, according to Steve the only recorded incidents on the anger of Jesus was his “sustained attack on the judgemental religious leaders of his day.”  His anger was directed only at the religious leaders who had twisted teachings and scripture to suit their own purposes.

Sadly this is a practise that continues in churches today.  The threat of God’s anger is used by leaders to impose their will or a view point meaning that, tragically for some, church can be the greatest cause of anxiety in their lives, rather than a source of peace.

Do you agree with Steve?
