Chalke Talk 4: The Church needs heretics

In order to stay relevant and to keep rediscovering the true message of scripture, we need people who can challenge prevailing orthodoxies and think outside the box.  Often these people – from Jesus to Martin Luther-King and William Wilberforce – were branded as heretics.  But perhaps one generation’s heretic may turn out to be the next generation’s prophet.

Why is it that it is only with hindsight that we recognise these were people who had the vision to see clearly, as well as the faith, curiosity and courage to challenge the prevailing ‘orthodoxy’ – and bring about moral change?
